Lafcadio Hearn Japanese Gardens
The Lafcadio Hearn Japanese Gardens are set in the beautiful seaside town of Tramore, County Waterford, Ireland. This garden commemorates Hearn’s childhood summers in Tramore, in the care of his grand aunt and guardian, Sarah Brenane. The effect of this sheltered walled garden is to recreate the colours, fragrance and textures of a Victorian garden.

After a great day out, you will depart for your evening meal. Here you will enjoy a 4 course meal before returning home.

Lafcadio Hearn Japanese Gardens
The journey begins in a Victorian Garden which commemorates Hearn’s happy childhood summers in Tramore. Later you will visit an American Garden and a Greek Garden, followed by a series of Japanese inspired areas. Having passed beneath a Fujidana, you will find a traditional Japanese Tea Garden; followed by a Stream Garden which leads to ponds, a waterfall and a woodland area. The 2.5-acre gardens are set on a hillside overlooking the dramatic sweep of Tramore Bay. Visitors are introduced to aspects of Japanese folklore through several stories written and translated by Lafcadio Hearn, including the legend of Urashima Taro.
Waterford City
There is also much to do and see as the city features three of Ireland premier visitor attractions. The Waterford Crystal Visitor Centre, the highly praised Waterford Museum of Treasures and the Waterford Walking Tour as well as Christ Church Cathedral.
