Departure
We pick you up from our designated collection point with one of our
luxury coaches. The journey is now much easier and quicker with road
developments. We stop en route at the Gandon Inn, Portlaoise for our
mid morning tea / coffee and scones.

Cahir Castle
Standing on a rock in the River Suir, Cahir Castle retains its impressive
keep, tower and much of its original defensive structure. Initially built
by the O Brien family and occupied for centuries by the powerful Butler
family, it was the scene of sieges and bombardments on numerous
occasions as well as featuring in the film “Excalibur “. A guided tour
and an excellent audio-visual show will enhance your visit to this well
preserved castle.

Mount Melleray
The drive from Cahir to Mount Melleray will bring you through a
spectacular mountain pass called the Vee. En route you will see Samuel
Grubb’s unusual burial place! You will also see Bay Lough corrie lake
and hear the tale of “Petticoat Loose”! You will be spellbound by
the Cistercian Abbey which was built with stone from Mitchelstown
Castle. The peace, tranquillity and beauty of this ‘oasis in a mountain
wilderness’ will leave a lasting impression on you.

Evening Meal
We will return to the Gandon Inn, Portlaoise, to enjoy our evening meal.
A hand picked local entertainer will top off the night with music and
dancing before you set off home.
